Why did you write this book? Several years ago, I had two big problems. I found it hard to finish my work and even when I did, I almost never shipped my writing on time time. So, I spent several years studying various writing techniques, marketing strategies, productivity books and creativity techniques. I took fiction, non-fiction and copywriting for beginners courses. I read about the lives and habits of productivity gurus like David Allen and Stephen Covey. I found out the hard way that professional writers know how to get things done, finish their work on time, and get paid. In this practical how to writing book, I want to share what I discovered with new and experienced writers. I want to share what I discovered with you. There are far too many typos in this book for it to be called professional. I'm not convinced it ever saw an editor. Many people reading this are aspiring self-publishers, and it's embarrassing to be reading a handbook on creating excellent writing with so many mistakes. It's hard to take an author seriously who doesn't practice what he preaches. Here's an example from the actual text on this very topic: "A master craftsman tidies up after themselves and prepares their work for the following day in advance." That is badly done--a singular subject (craftsman) referred to with plural pronouns (themselves, their). And on the very topic of careful editing--the mind boggles. I'm honestly not a grammar Nazi. I'm just frustrated because I'm trying to learn to write better, only to find my instructor for whose writing I paid good money produces a subpar product.Product details

A Handbook For the Productive Writer 33 Ways You Can Finish What You Started Bryan Collins 9781521298145 Books Reviews
Haven't finished reading this but it looks useful. Good tips and ideas. Well constructed and written. Have referred other writers to it.
Well written
So many great ideas of how to get off your duff and just write. Enjoyed your list of power rods as well. For any aspiring writer, this is a must have book.
Its organized well and easy to skim and read the tips that appeal to you. Each tip has a thorough explanation, but is still concise. And most importantly, I found some really useful tips. It's practical advice.
Full of advice for productivity and motivation, this book does what the title promises. Includes theory, research, and examples from other writers that are sure to give a writer the push they need to get back to work.
This is one of the best books on how to get motivated as a writer, and on how to get writing projects completed. There are so many interesting concepts, solid examples on how to apply the concepts, and prompts for getting unstuck. If you are genuinely interested in getting your writing published - in whatever form that may be - this book will cover all that you need to know. It was a pleasure to read this book.
Although it's true that there aren't any new ideas about how to be a better writer (and there aren't any new ones coming), we read to find different perspectives on the basic truths. And it is fresh perspective on the core principles that makes this one of the best books on writing I've encountered in a long while. I highly recommend reading this book.
